Katikati Concert Band

About Us

Katikati Concert Band (KCB) is a community group featuring woodwind, brass and percussion players, under the baton of Musical Director Hiro Kobayashi.

The band has been based in Katikati since September 1890, attracting players from Tauranga to Paeroa and sometimes beyond. We welcome musicians of all ages and abilities.

We play a range of fun and challenging music, from classics to modern wind band repertoire, pop songs, movie themes, marches and more.

We perform at a range of community events (ANZAC, A&P Shows, Matariki, Christmas etc), host our own concerts several times each year, and compete at annual music festivals. We regularly collaborate with local choirs and other bands, and host special weekend events open to visitors.

2026 Concert Series 2: World Tour

Join us on 16 August 2026 for our next performance, under the baton of guest conductor Brett Lowe.

Katikati War Memorial Hall

Concert starts 4.00pm (doors open 3.30pm)

Tickets $10 (cash/EFT, free for under 12 years)

The programme will take us on a wild world tour, with pieces from or evoking exotic locales, from Australia to Austria, Africa to America, and beyond. Enjoy the cool shade of a coolibah tree, watch the jugglers in a Persian market, awe in the massive skies above the Eurasian steppes, or enjoy the ambience of a Bavarian beerhall. This concert has it all.

A selection of raffles will be drawn at closing to fundraise towards the cost of hiring the venue - tickets are $2 each or $5 for three.

Recent Events

NZ Concert Band
Association Festival 2026

On 28 June 2026 we performed at the NZ Concert Band Association Festival at St Peter's School in Cambridge.

Our programme included two pieces written specifically for us - The Mural Town March by John Gibbons, and The Landing by John Kean. The adjudicators gave us great feedback and awarded us a Silver certificate.

Waihi ANZAC
commemorative service

Later on ANZAC Day, 10:30 am Saturday 25 April 2026, the band played at Waihi's ANZAC commemorative service.

Thank you Hauraki District Council for inviting us to be a part of this commemoration once again. We thank guest speaker Lou Beer for her heartfelt and poignant speech. Your service and sacrifice, and those of others, will not be forgotten.

On ANZAC Day, Saturday 25 April 2026, band members contributed music at the 5:45 am ANZAC dawn ceremony outside Katikati War Memorial Hall.

Thank you Katikati RSA for inviting us. It is always an honour and a privilege to be a part of this service. The sacrifices others have made will always be remembered.

We practise at a closed rehearsal every Thursday evening 7pm-9pm at Katikati Bowls Club (8 Park Road, Katikati). Get in touch with us and we'll help you get prepared before you come along.
